Transcript from live interview between Basia, Founder of Barbara Sunchaser Yoga and Daniela, Designer and Founder of The Humanista Co.

Daniela:

Hi Basia, thanks for joining!

Basia:

Yeah, thanks for having me.

Daniela:

It's so nice to chat with you today and I just wanna get started by asking a little bit about your brand and business. If you could just tell us a little about what you do, what your mission is, would love to hear it.

Basia:

So I'm a yoga teacher. I'm also a meditation and relaxation teacher. Pranayama is like a breathing exercise, and I do some women's sharing circles I started recently. And some yoga retreats, things like that. All about well-being, living mindfully, and bringing some peace into peoples' lives so they can find a home within themselves.

Daniela:

I love that phrase, "find a home within yourself." I really love that. And what's the name of your brand, because it's different from your actual name, right?

Basia:

Yeah, so my brand name is Barbara Sunchaser because I really like sun, sun is positive, and because I'm Polish but I'm living in England, and my surname is really hard to pronounce for foreign people, and I just felt like Sunchaser is more, it's easier to remember.

Final design for her new yoga teacher website

Daniela:

Oh yeah, I love the name it's just, Barbara Sunchaser, I just feel happy and light. I think it's really nice. So, we worked together, you are a former client of mine, and I was curious, before we started working together, what were some of the challenges you were going through in your brand?

Basia:

So I was having a hard time to find new clients, or how to look professional, you know? Like what should I put as my contact information, how can I tell people about what I do, what I'm offering. And I did have an Instagram account and Facebook business page, it was messy there, it was hard to find my actual offer or how to book my classes. Before that, people would pay me in cash, you know, and during the classes it was kind of messy and I had a notebook and I had to put their names if they wanted to book a class and they had to reach out to me every time they wanted to come. And now they just go online and do that by themselves and pay by card and yeah, it's much more helpful for them and for me, saving a lot of time.

Daniela:

Oh good, good. And did you have a website when we started working together?

Basia:

No, I didn't have a website and yeah, that was what I was looking for.

Daniela:

Right, I remember, because you were mostly just on Instagram and Facebook, no website, and, what you were saying? It was kind of like an old-school process like pen and paper?

Basia:

Yeah, it's easy to become disorganized when everything is scattered on a million papers.

Daniela:

Cool, alright. When we started working together, can you tell us a little about the process, you know, what was it like working together and what were the results?

Basia:

Yeah, so I was thinking we were gonna create the website and that will be it, I thought it would be mostly your work and I probably won't have to do much, maybe just like accept your ideas, but actually it was kind of like a coaching session.

I got to finally stop and think about who are my clients, what do I need, what do THEY need, and how to make the whole process better for them. It was really amazing and the building the website part was the last part and it seemed like the least relevant, actually. It was very very helpful.

Daniela:

Good, I'm so glad. How has our work together changed your business overall?

Basia:

So I finally got the idea that I DO have a brand, like, I'm not just a yoga teacher. And I think because of that I finally got more confident in having more to offer to people because I can help them in so many other ways besides yoga.

It got me into thinking about what do they need and what can I offer them? And not every one of them is even interested in yoga, so now I can access more, help more people. Especially now, when people are forced to move online spaces and plenty of my friends were scared because they lost their income and they didn't know how to move to online spaces. We worked together on Zoom, so I knew I could do that on Zoom, and I had my website with my offer, and I've got the schedule link page there, so it was much easier for me. And straight away I got those ideas, like how can I move to online, how can I help people in an online space, and yeah it was much easier for me.

Daniela:

That's really good to hear, yeah, I mean especially during this pandemic it sounds like all the work we did together, the few months before the world changed, it sounds like you were prepared. You were set up online already, you automatized all the payments, so people just click a button and you collect payments that way, you had your website set up, and:

It sounds like overall you got a lot of clarity about what your brand is, the way you wanna help people, and just really thinking about who your ideal client is and how exactly you wanna show up to help them.

Basia:

Yeah, it was really helpful!

Daniela:

Good, well I'm so glad! Well, thank you so much for chatting. So nice to chat again and hear from you and such an honor to work with you, Basia, and I wish you all the best.

Basia:

Thank you, yeah, I am so grateful.

Daniela:

Aw, so sweet. Well, I'll talk to you soon and thanks again!

Basia:

Thank you. Bye!
